Season ender

This is my favorite shot from Friday's double-header between Spalding and Perry at SHS. Spalding lost both games, which ended their season. I got a little lucky on this one, because lot of times, it's really hard to get story-telling images while shooting sports. Here's the caption: A hard-hit pop fly bounces after Spalding High center fielder Blake Burrell makes an unsuccessful dive for the ball.

Rocco and Shannon's wedding

I photographed the wedding of two friends yesterday — Rocco and Shannon — on a plantation-style house out in Greene County. It was a beautiful ceremony, and it was really nice to get to see friends I haven't seen in years. Here's two of my favorite frames. I'm going to put up an entire gallery from the wedding on my new weddings website (kevinlilesweddings.com) within the next week or two.

Celebration

I'm trying to keep with updating this blog every day, so here's today's entry. CAPTION: Perry High players celebrate as Robbie Taylor, who hit a grand slam, crosses home plate Friday during their game against Spalding.

Downtown Griffin

I was driving home from work (all 1/2 mile of it) when I saw this amazing light as the sun set. It was only one of a couple times the sun peered through the clouds today.

Soccer blowout

Today's game was pretty boring for Spalding's goalkeeper Sara Tatum — her team beat Dougherty Comprehensive High School 15-0. It would've been worse had it not been for the mercy rule, which forces the game to end when a team gets 15 points ahead of their opponent.

Way too long

It's been more than two weeks since my last post — I'm sure the five people who read this blog regularly have been disappointed. This photo is from a rehearsal for the ballet Coppelia, which is under the direction of Mitch Flanders. He's pictured here giving direction to the ballerinas. It's always fun to shoot with stage lighting and play around with light.

Teaching music

I haven't posted in awhile because I've been in Charleston, S.C. on vacation with Kim. It was the best vacation ever, and I promise to have photos up as soon as I get them back (I shot everything on chrome film, so it will be a few weeks before it's processed). Anyways, here's a frame from one of my first assignments since I've been back. This is Larry Dixon, a musician and artist from Atlanta, who is starting a "Making Music" class at the Griffin Boys & Girls Club. Dixon is has a pretty impressive resume, having played with the legendary Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker. Here, he is framed by his painting of his mentor, Big Water Horton, while teaching his first class. Dixon, who brought along his guitar and harmonicas, hopes to teach the youngsters about how music is made and play some instruments.
