ATL

I got really bored tonight, so I decided to go to Atlanta and get a nighttime skyline shot. I know it's been done a thousand times, but I wanted to do it myself. This was taken from the Fifth Street overpass near Georgia Tech. It wasn't a lot of fun trying to get this shot because I'm pretty sure I wasn't supposed to be where I was standing, and I had to deal with shooting through a fence. Anyways, I can now say I've shot the Atlanta skyline — whatever that's worth.

Late night walk

I've been dying to shoot something different, so I took a walk tonight to do just that.

Front porch Scripture

This Clarence Mitchell. I've seen him out in front of his home several times reading the Bible or listening to gospel music with his hands outstretched. He seems to be a very humble man, and I'm thankful that he didn't mind me taking a few pictures of him.

Cat, meet dog

My neighbor's cat visited me tonight and made himself right at home as you can see. Before he headed back across the street, he said hello to Charlie.

Relic

I found this in a now-defunct camera store we did a story on for the paper. It's amazing how far technology has come, especially in regards to photography. It still blows my mind that I can take a picture and have it sent around the world in minutes. This model was made from 1969-1971 and was part of the "Land camera" series. I'll bet you were the coolest guy on vacation if you had one of these hanging around your neck.

Mama

My beautiful mother came to see me today, and I thought it was time I took a good portrait of her. I'm following the advice of fellow photographer Andrew Craft to photograph my family as much as possible. Like him, I've got plenty of pictures of complete strangers, but hardly any of the people closest to me.

Backroads

It's ridiculous how many photographs I have of this dog, but he doesn't seem to mind. We both took a nice little ride on some back roads today through about three counties. It was nice to have the windows down, the radio off and just go wherever I felt like. I did get lost, but that's partly the goal.

Barnesville, Ga.

This ain't nothing special, but I was drawn to this bright red bike while I was in Barnesville today. I've been trying to shoot things I wouldn't normally, and trying to look at them a little differently. It's hard, because I almost always go with the first idea that pops in when I'm framing the scene in my mind. But I need to go beyond that and get something different, something that's mine, because all of those preconceived ideas always come from other photographs I've seen.

G-G-Pa

I was going through some old photos and found this one of Kim's grandfather, whom they call G-G-Pa, that I took last year at Thanksgiving. I'm looking forward to growing old so I can have a license to play golf and fish full-time. Oh yeah, and smoke a cool pipe.

Slice of life

I found this today while riding around Griffin looking for a feature shot for the paper. I just think it's a nice little slice of life.
